After recovering from lung cancer, I returned to my first love of painting after fifteen years of working in other media. My image was of an area of light in the darkness of outer space that I had seen behind my eyes before my surgery.  This light was also present in a series of small paper pieces I had done to mourn the death of each of my parents.  In the beginning, the automatic writing was a silent prayer to the universe for my own well – being.  Through the years, I thought of it as communication of any kind being sent out to space, and that the writing could be interpreted by the viewer.

Some of the more recent paintings have more color as the light expands.
